Joanna Macy talks about our habit as humans of numbing ourselves to pain. We 'speak it' but we don't 'stay there' with it. In speaking it we move on. We move on because we fear it and treat it as an enemy to our cheerfulness, and thus we fail to acknowledge that we need pain to alert us to what needs attention.
In my TSK practice I've been working with exercises that point out how describing experience seems to cut us off from the intimacy of direct experience. When considering why I am grateful for the gifts I have been given, it's true that I don't usually feel grateful for my pain. This is a worthy meditation, isn't it?
Thanks Brother B!
I needed that. Blessings to you,
David
You're welcome, David. I really enjoyed it too.
Here's another nice one I came across yesterday:
Embracing Pain, with Joanna Macy
I think it's a good complement to the gratitude one.
Best wishes,
B.
I liked that clip too, Balder!
