The documentary above closes with the news that the Buddha Boy had disappeared. A week or so ago, he has reappeared. Below is a speech he gave in Nepali.
Message of Buddha boy - Ram Bahadur Bomjon in Nepali 2008
Here is the translation of his speech:
"Murder, violence, greed, anger and temptation has made the human world a desperate place. A terrible storm has descended upon the human world, and this is carrying the world towards destruction. There is only one way to save the world and that is through dharma (religious practice.) When one doesn't walk the righteous path of religious practice, this desperate world will surely be destroyed. Therefore, follow the path of religion and spread this message to your fellows. Never put obstacles, anger and disbelief in the way of my meditation's mission. I am only showing you the way; you must seek it on your own. What I will be, what I will do, the coming days will reveal. Human salvation, the salvation of all living beings, and peace in the world are my goal and my path. Namo Buddha sangaya, Namo Buddha sangaya, namo sangaya. I am contemplating on the release of this chaotic world from the ocean of emotion, on our detachment from anger and temptation, without straying from the path for even a moment, I am renouncing my own attachment to my life and my home forever, I am working to save all living beings. But in this undisciplined world, my life's practice is reduced to mere entertainment.
The practice and devotion of many Buddhas is directed at the world's betterment and happiness. It is essential but very difficult to understand that practice and devotion. But though it is easy to lead this ignorant existence, human beings don't understand that one day we must leave this uncertain world and go with the Lord of Death. Our long attachments with friends and family will dissolve into nothingness. We have to leave behind the wealth and property we have accumulated. What's the use of my happiness, when those who have loved me from the beginning, my mother, father, brothers, relatives are all unhappy. Therefore, to rescue all sentient beings, I have to be Buddha-mind, and emerge from my underground cave to do vajra meditation. To do this I have to realize the right path and knowledge, so do not disturb my practice. My practice detaches me from my body, my soul and this existence. In this situation there will be 72 goddess Kalis. Different gods will be present, along with the sounds of thunder and of tangur , and all the celestial gods and goddesses will be doing puja (worship.) So until I have sent a message, do not come here, and please explain this to others. Spread religious knowledge and religious messages throughout the world. Spread the message of world peace to all. Seek a righteous path and wisdom will be yours."

Hi Bruce,
I think he is a fraud. The monks and nuns seems to been added in afterward. There is no one around listening to him. He doesn't seem to have any inner certainty. He doesn't touch my heart.
I once met a boy saint in Rishikesh though, that by his mere presence I was given a rare glimpse of transcendence. Wish I had stayed to find out his name. Even though just the memory of the event brings the Absolute into focus.
Yes, he may be. I'm not sure. Did you watch the Discovery documentary clips, or just his speech?
My impression is that he is authentic, in terms of seriously practicing, entering into samadhi, etc. But I don't believe he is the “reincarnation of the Buddha” or any of the other mythic sort of stuff that is cropping up around him. I think that's just the sort of thing you'd expect to arise in a largely mythic culture … which he himself appears to be part of. His “message” is also rather predictable and unexceptional, even if earnest. (Though, I agree with you: his voice and presentation do not carry a sense of conviction or clarity.)
One reason I posted this blog is because I'm interested in the tension between mythic and modern that these sorts of events or stories bring out. I think this tension may cut both ways – where both modern and mythic must reassess each other, look again.
well, buddha coming back as a boy doesn't really change much…if he really wanted to get everyones attention, he should a come back as a turkey…or a snowman or something…LOL…sorry, couldn't resist…much joy*
…or maybe as a wiseass from Tennessee?
All the best, Star! Happy Thanksgiving….
rotflmao…that would be me…lol…what a good laugh you have given me! all the best to you as well…always, star…
The messianic impulse and hope of delivery through some divine person apparently is somewhat universal it seems.
There have been a couple of new Buddha's that I can remember (Benjamin Creme and his Maitreya for instance) in the last 30 years or so. And then, of course, we had Krishnamurti who was also the Bufddha of his day and age. He seems to have been the first one to come a little bit closer to the post mythic when he dissolved the order that had built him up…
And I don't think in brings out the tension between moderns and mythic in any significant way, more than, say, the creationist museum does - except, maybe, this will be more relevant to the Buddhists, needing to come out of the closet regarding their belief in lineages and all that stuff.
Love,
Mushin
oh ye of little faith!lol
could it be that liberal democracy is not all it’s cracked up to be?
maybe a little bit of healthy conservative religious practice is not such a bad thing…………………..
it’s good though that the scientists tested the older rishi………..
interesting story indeed, thx., andrew…….
My impression is also that he is authentic,He is still very young, with very
little schooling,And then saying the things he did, I'm impressed.I think when he somehow manage to continue meditating without to much disturbance and he really wants it,Yes than he can be the next Buddha.
I think to become a Buddha there has to be not to much influences from the world to contaminate you.Remember the first Buddha from 2600 years ago Gautama Buddha also lived his beginning years very protected becourse of his father and there was therefore not much contamination from the outsite world.
This boy started his meditation when he was 15 years old,Becourse of his starting on this very young age there is also very little contamination from the outside world and this makes him very pure.
Also Buddhahood is much more difficult to reach than Christhood.
Buddhahood is above the state of Christhood.
Within the Christ consiousness there are levels to attain.
The highest level you can attain here on Earth is Buddhahood.
Above Buddhahood are even higher levels but these levels are not posible to reach when you live here on Earth.
The density of the Earth is to low for that.
Namaste,
Egbert
