Exhibitions of Zero, Flowers of Space

Posted on Jan 3rd, 2009 by Balder : Kosmonaut Balder

The following video, a visualization of the beauty and artfulness of math, resonates with me also as a sort of meditation on space, time, and knowledge.  As you watch it, I invite you not merely to observe it from a distance, but to allow it to interact with you -- to find its traces in your own being and knowing.

Mathematics & art

What remains in play, vital, undecided, around the positions we take?  How are our positions also openings, exhibitions of zero?

What boundaries trace out the shape of your being -- of your body and mind, self and relationships?  Are those boundaries any different from the bounty of space?  What might they yield, if you cease taking them as given and, instead, 'zero in' in ever-deepening circles of intimacy?

"Like an unimaginably beautiful space flower, Great Space blossoms into unknown Being" (Tarthang Tulku, Knowledge of Time and Space).

this was awesome bruce…way cool…

i felt every vibration, every spark within all my Being…it was like an inner/outer flow of exciting sounds and senses alive and expanding…into the ever present dance of Being…then towards the later part where the picture was moving seemingly away visually, it felt like that wondrous Being was being drawn outward…but not away, just ever increasing in bountiful space…

i feel tingling all over and interconnected…lol

thank you so much for sharing this…very inspiring…*

When science becomes art and art becomes science there is an interplay that ‘zeros in’ on something that stirs the mind and body. Call it divine Will, Law or what have you it never the less becomes an inspiration.  Throw in a smattering of philosophy and we revel in the glory of truth. And with the physical world being interconnect with a mysterious beauty which moves us to feel, give breath, and illuminate the senses we become intrigued with the boundary that is…

Thanks, Star and Jordan, for your comments.

Star, when you describe the “outward but not away” experience, that reminds me of the “no distance” insight discussed and explored in the first TSK book. I just tuned in to that in viewing the video again.

Jordan, I appreciated your description of the interplay of art, science, inspiration, and illumination. Like feeding knowing into knowing, the aesthetics of inquiry…

That’s awesome, Hokai. Thank you! It is even more gorgeous in HD. And I see this version stays with the sparkling play of tigles, instead of including the fractal journey.

This is a good place, too, for me to plug the artwork of an online friend, Michael DuBois: Sacred Spaces.

That HD version was like hanging out for a ethereal cytoplasmic journey. Here’s a Ahonia for more…

Hello Balder, Ah numbers what a tremendous sight to have to come upon these endless wonders. You think you can capture one and before you know there are two of them.
Yet we fight so hard to imprison that which never ends, when it seems so much better to glide along with them.
Thanks

oh, wonderful! this is like my equalizer in iTunes. Sometimes I just turn it on and sit and watch for ages…I’ve often wondered if there is actually a correlation between the images and the music I’m playing.. don’t suppose you know?
